    I haven't seen the first one yet, so I can't compare. But I enjoyed myself at this movie. Anything...[ read more ] that can make museums and history fun and exciting for kids is a great thing in my book. Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart is the best thing about this movie!! Hank Azaria is the main villain. He's the Egyptian pharaoh Kahmunrah. The plot involves Kahmunrah enlisting the help of Napoleon (Chabat), Al Capone (Bernthal), and Ivan the Terrible (Guest) to take over the world. Azaria provides some other voices too. Obviously he is talented from doing so many voices on The Simpsons, but he did a more consistent impression in Mystery Men. He seemed to slip in and out of different accents all while playing Kahmunrah. It was just all too silly for me to really respect him as a comic here. The humor is mostly slack stick, very broad, of course it's for kids' sensibilities. There were a few jokes for the adults, including one by Wilson about getting to second base with Amelia Earhart. There were lots of good effects. I enjoyed the scene early on with the art museum paintings and Jay Baruchel making a cameo. Overall, an enjoyable way to spend a couple hours.

    After the depressing Revolutionary Road that left a bad taste in my mouth, director Sam Mendes has come back with a likable dramedy about a couple looking to find the right place to start a family. Its Mendes' most likable film to date and is certainly about bringing up your spirits, in an indie film sort of way.

    Maya Rudolph of SNL and a beared John Krasinski, from The Office, star as Verona and Burt, a very loving couple who set out on an odyssey to find the perfect place to raise their child, whom Verona is six months pregnant with. They decide this after receiving news from Burt's parents, played by Jeff Daniels and Catherine O'Hara, that they plan to move to Denmark a month before the baby will be born.

    What follows is a cross country journey in which the couple meet up with various friends and relatives who are all very quirky and strange in their own ways. This includes Allison Janney as an inappropriate day-time alcoholic and her husband played by Jim Gaffigan, Maggie Gyllenhaal as a loopy "feminist," Chris Messina and Melanie Lynskey as a couple of deceivingly happy adoptive parents, and Paul Schneider as Burt's brother. These performances all range between over the top and subtly nuanced, but are all very fitting to their characters and the film. Two in particular come to mind. Janney for one, because after watching her in Mendes' American Beauty the other day, as Wes Bentley's very low key and emotionally vacant mother, its such a huge separation for the character here. The other is Paul Schneider, who I've seemed to be noticing in various things since Lars and the Real Girl. He has a way of delivering his performances effectively enough to make him rise on my list of character actors to keep enjoying.

    All this being said, the film belongs to both Krasinski and Rudolph. Proving once again that if an actor can do comedy, than drama comes naturally, these two give terrific performances that are both humorous and touching. They have great chemistry together and work well to get through the various stops on their journey.

    The screenplay by acclaimed married authors Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida certainly works in supplanting various characters into odd situations and despite some the more negative minded views of some, Burt and Verona never lose site of the love for each other, even if they question it, and never become unlikable people.

    While not as stylish as some of Mendes' other films, he still gives the film a look that defines its tone and the music by Alexi Murdoch is very welcome.

    This film may embrace certain qualities that make it seem very much in the realm of "indie films" but it shouldn't matter if it is done well and provides an entertaining film watching experience, and this film certainly does.

    Burt: I will always love you...even if you become enormous. Even if it takes you a year to lose that weight...even if you gain weight... even if become so flabby that I can never find your vagina. You can write that in stone.

A stylish, well-crafted and brilliant thrill-machine thats loaded with explosive action and nail-biting suspence. Its heart-pounding and breathtaking. It's slickly character driven and well-developed. Director, Tony Scott once again proves he is a master of delivering an intelligent thriller to the screen with his unique _b_style in directing and story telling. A sensational and hard-boiled movie that truly delivers with non-stop pulse-pounding thrills. It has you glued to your seat for the whole ride. Washington and Travolta are pure dynamite, these two great actors togehter is like watching sparking live wire. John Travolta is riveting, he's always filled with raw energy showing that the movie star still has plenty to offer. Denzel Washington is teriffic, again showing why he's the compelling hero. John Turturro and James Gandolfini are fantastic. A powerful piece of great action movie that really dazzels.

    Riddles bro makes his own 'Die Hard' cross 'The Rock' _b_style hostage actioner with an admittedly c...[ read more ]ool baddie Travolta (looking like he's had plastic surgery these days hehe) and Washington looking like Malcolm X again. A rocking sound track at sharp intervals introduces you to the film as it unfolds slowly, and much like the classic Die Hard its in the same vein to be honest, just no Euro trash.

    It is good at the start and pretty intense but after the initial hostage taking and the plan is all laid out on the table it does become rather boring and actually pretty flat. The thing is the police could take Travolta and his three (only three!!) guys out at any time really, they have snipers in good positions to take their shots and then rush the train, it would be pretty cut n dry to be honest haha OK maybe some injuries but basically the film is drawn out on this hostage premise but it feels really stretched to me.

    The ending is really an anti climax as it wraps up nicely in a little bow which frankly is the whole problem, rocking start then quickly falls into a coma and is kinda stupid. Dare I say it?....
    Die Hard on a subway train perhaps?? sort of, just no where near as cool or rockin.

    I only know Maya Rudolph from SNL, and John Krasinski from some TV show, and they have the best chemistry of any movie I've seen this year. The whole supporting cast is superb.
    It's very touching and supplies plenty of laughs. It's not a big budget summer blockbuster, but I'd recommend it to anyone.
